Coeur de Pirate- la Petite Mort

Beatrice Martin’s new album, Blonde, has just been released and is already a hit. It’s not surprising given her thoroughly modern take on the 60s French vibe made famous by Serge Gainsbourg.  La Petite Mort is one of the more sombre sounding songs in the collection, but even the frothiest tunes on Blonde carry a deeper, more serious lyric.

In her own words.

“I really wanted Blonde to sound classic,” Martin said. “To me, the ’60s are perfect – in change, in cinema, in culture. And I really like what they did in France as well when it comes to music. You could talk about very intense subjects with very light and happy music – but the lyrics aren’t so happy.”

It’s nice to see talent get the recognition it deserves.
