I am keenly aware of the irony of posting a link to an article about the downside of frictionless sharing on a massive social media sharing site, but this struck a chord.
It’s one thing to find an interesting article and choose to share it with friends. It’s quite another to inundate your friends with everything that passes through your browser or your app, hoping that they will pick something interesting along the way.
I’ve been resisting FB from the get-go and it gets harder and harder to remain outside the corral. I am a flâneur at heart. I like to share, but not everything. In fact, many times I’m sharing with one other person, and that’s fine. I don’t need or want to know everything about you either. I think a little mystery is more than fine. No, not even mystery—just a little privacy. If not for my sake, then yours. Call it breathing space.
